"You got a fag mate?"
Is that phrase ever anything ever anything other then some kind of retarded challenge to some kind of Mortal Kombat? I have to wonder as my honest response of "No, sorry. I don't smoke." seems to at the very least lead to somebody getting in my face and more usually, as in tonight, somebody taking a swing at me. Fucking purile wankers spoiling for a fight... no, scratch that. A fight would be a challenge; a risk. They want a punch bag such as myself to kick in. If I had a fag or, if I could magic a cigarette out of my anus, would it make a difference? Yeah I doubt it (unless I had encountered the worlds most militant pro-smoking lobbiests). Still I kept calm, didn't react to the first swing and a saviour appeared. Another group of children (At 30 I reserve the right to speak of people younger then myself as such) come out of the bushes by the road and step in.
One in particular steps forwards and intercedes. He seems to speak with great powers of eloquence and reason. He calms the situation effortlessly. This manchild is a leader, somebody to watch... Saying that though.... part of me can't help but notice that his left hand is pissing blood all over the shop. Still this is Corby. He's a man of the people.

Good thing/Bad thing
Good thing: Have jiggered with the firmware on my PC`s DVD drive so that it`s multi-region. Bad thing: An old software install, probably Nero or Virtual CD, has buggered my system so that while it reads DVDs fine it won`t read CDs! Tried lots of fixes, hence firmware jiggering, but looks like i need to rebuild. So, XP or try and get hold of Windows 7?

Red Cliff

Just finished watching Red Cliff. I think it's quite a while since I really enjoyed a John Woo film but I did quite like this one. That's probably a lot to do with the fact that it doesn't really feel like one of his films. I suppose bullet ballet and tales of gangland loyalty and betrayal don't fit in the historical epic so well.
The film is based on the ancient Chinese epic the Romance Of The Three Kingdoms which, combined with the many long battle sequences make it seem less like a serious historical drama and more like Dynasty Warriors: The Movie. Sequences that may seem silly to some gained a whole new level of charm for me as they seemed lifted straight out of the games. A lone general charging into the centre of a battle and turning the tide is after all the essence of that series. No I'm not exactly familiar with the original book but all the big names from the game are there, even the annoying girl with the bow.
Ever since Crouching Tiger beautiful looking epics like this seem to be coming out of China pretty regularly these days and this one certainly belongs in the group. A much higher standard of CGI then I've seen in a HK film before.
So anyway, I liked it. Looking forward to the next part of the story (a rather sudden ending and cliffhanger to this one).

Happy times are here again...
.bmp)
Half term. Joy of joys. What kind of job makes you hate the term "The Holidays"? Answer, mine. So a week of sitting in the office doing fuck all unfolds before me. I want to be trying to take this opportunity to be doing some writing but I feel like shit. Tired, low and have had a headache for days now.
